The New Media and Travel Insurance

For many, the notion of travel insurance is somewhat foreign to them. This is understandable as the advertisement and promotion of travel insurance is found mostly in the new media of the internet as opposed to traditional media formats. In other words, there is relatively little advertisement of travel insurance on radio, television and print. Part of the reason for this is cost. The traditional media is quite expensive to advertise in and for travel insurance providers to afford such costs when they offer essentially low cost premiums – many of which are paid in one time lump sums – is cost prohibitive.

Unfortunately, this has led to the erroneous assumption on many individual’s part that travel insurance is a “gimmick” or “online scam.” Sadly, when online commerce first started a decade ago it was loaded with salacious advertisements that belonged in men’s magazines and comic books. Of course, the emergence of Ebay and Amazon has shown that there are a number of legitimate online businesses that are far removed from the nonsense that primarily permeated the online channels. However, for many people whose first experience with online businesses has been with below board companies, it becomes hard to accept a small online business or start up business seriously. When it comes to travel insurance, this is a shame because there are a number of top notch travel insurance providers who can deliver excellent coverage plans that encompass a variety of trips for a number of durations. Hopefully, as these travel insurance providers deliver on their promises they will continue to grow in popularity in the marketplace and potential new customers will feel more at ease. The benefits provided by travel insurance companies are vast and if one opts to take out such a policy, one can be financially protected from a variety of calamities that can occur on a trip. That doesn’t exactly sound like a bad deal, does it?
